It all started oneday ( may be two weeks back) when me and Bala were having a side talk when the group had Seeni and Mushi too... I conveyed my mad thought of playing volleyball in the sands of marina to him and he approved it too..It was the tipping point when the idea came close to action..

But unfortunate events struck us in between. But that does not deter us from implementing the stupid wish to a fun filling experience..I call that as something stupid because A band of boys who were used to play only cricket in the hot sun and know nothing about volley ball as a game except watching the game in the dull, mundane, sobre Doordarshan.. Even the game didnt enthuase us when there was an annual beach volley ball event some ten years back.

Today I was reading the roller coaster book The third wave ( My sure recommend for all readers ) when Bala knocked at my dungeon. Exchanging pleasantaries we quickly rushed towards Bells road in his uncle's Suzuki. We ran from pole to post to pick the best volleyball available in that area provided that doesnt bite our purse. We were caught hold by a smart shop keeper who tried to sell the costliest one in the shop, but on seeing our faces he carefully picked the one he stocked some long time back. I started the bargaining from 350 to 250 and soon Bala too pitched in. We had happy faces once we bought the ball for 250 after the procedural checks.. Jus coming out of the shop I got the message from Mushi that he is in beach along with Seenali. We crisscrossed the busy saturday beach traffic to our favourite sitting location and found the old prats. I got the opportunity to hit Mushi with the ball from a distance and Mushi tried his martial arts skill to evade it. Soon the ball was blessed by Seenali and Mushi and it was ready to make use and news. To my amazement Seenali jumped to life when we started our first punch on the ball.But many of us know about the lazy erumai was idling his engine and parked his dicky on the sand as usual watching us with sarcasm and thinking"Let me see How long this a**h*l*s are playing". The crooked way we played incited Mushi not to be sitting anymore and he jumped to the playzone and even proved himself that he is Physical Education Trained Gentleman's Son by teaching us the basics of how to hold the ball and push it in the air with out much strain..

There was a kick we got once we are on the sands running, chasing the ball, cursing others,preaching others as though we are international stars..It was a amazing experience we got today, only four of us for that matter. The list will expand soon in the coming days.

I used to think that the cooperation is vital for any endavor be it blogging,planning for cricket, meeting up in beach on time. but surely the enthuasiam and pleasure of playing in beach had driven us today to issue a statement to the world that

" BCT will never die"

I am happy and with a light heart i ll go to bed after proving that we are back and we are sure to bounce back no matter what happens and even when the whole universe is working against us..

I wish all who read this will ask me about the next volleyball-playing-time

Lets Learn Cricket Lesson #1 Net Run Rate (NRR)

Net Run Rate (NRR) is a statistic used in the sport of cricket. It is the most commonly used method of separating teams in one-day league competitions, effectively acting as the Cricket equivalent of "goal difference" in football.

The net run rate in a single game is the run rate per over that a team scores, minus the run rate per over that is scored against them.

Step by step explanation

A team's run rate (RR) is their total number of runs divided by overs faced. As an over is made up of six balls, each ball counts for 1/6 of an over for the purposes of calculating the net run rate, despite being normally written in cricket's notation as .1 of an over.

So if a team scores 250 runs off 50 overs then their runrate is . If they got that same score off 47.5 overs, their RR would be

The concept of net run rate involves taking the opponents' final run rate away from the team's run rate. The only complication is that if a team is bowled out, it is not the balls faced which their score is divided by; instead the full quota of overs is used (e.g. 50 overs for a one day international and 20 overs for a Twenty20 match).

Usually, runs and overs bowled are summed together throughout a season to compare teams in a league table, as the following formula shows-

All scenarios assume One Day International rules with 50 overs per side.

1. Side that bats first wins

Team A bat first and set a target of 287-6 off their full quota of fifty overs. Team B fail in their run chase, early losses causing them to struggle to 243-8 in their 50 overs.

Team A bat first and are skittled out for 127 off 25.4 overs. Team B reach the target for the loss of four wickets off 25.5 overs, scoring a single to win the game and end with 128 runs.
Despite Team A's runrate for the balls they faced being 127 / 25.667 = 4.95 (2dp) because they were bowled out the entire 50 overs are added to their total overs faced tally for the tournament, and Team B are credited with having bowled 50 overs.
Team B actually scored at a slower pace, however they managed to protect their wickets. Thus, only the 25 .(5/6) overs are added to the seasonal tally.

4. Side that bats second is bowled out. Side batting first wins.

Team A bat first and set a formidable 295-7 off their complement of 50 overs. Team B never get close, being bowled out for 184 off 35.4 overs.
As in scenario 2, 295 runs and 50 overs are added to Team A's tally.
However, Team B, despite facing only 35.4 overs, have faced 50 overs according to the NRR calculations, and Team A have bowled 50 overs.

5. Both sides are bowled out, the team batting first therefore taking the points.

Team A bat first, and manage 117 off 24 overs on a difficult playing surface. Team B fall agonizingly short, reaching 112 off 23.3 overs.
In this case, both teams get 50 overs both faced and bowled in the overs column for the season, just as in example 1.

6. The game ends in a tie

Runs and overs are added as in the examples above, with teams bowled out being credited with their full quota of overs. Thus, the net run rate may actually change after a tie.

7. Interrupted games with revised targets.

In matches where Duckworth-Lewis revised targets are set due to interruptions which reduce the number of overs bowled, those revised targets are used to calculate the net run rate.
For example, in a 50-over World Cup first-round group match, Team A are dismissed for 165 in 33.5 overs.
Team B progresses to 120-0, but play is halted after 18 overs due to rain.
Six overs are lost, and the target is reset to 150, which Team B reach comfortably after 26.2 overs with only 2 wickets lost.
Because the target was revised, 6 overs were lost and Team A were bowled out, Team A's total is reset to 149 after 44 overs, thus their RR . Team B's RR, however, is computed as normal: .
Computing the match NRR for Team A gives us 3.39 - 5.70 = -2.31. Team B's NRR is: 5.70 - 3.39 = 2.31.

Net Run Rate can go down, even after a win

It is a commonly held misconception that if a team wins then its NRR will be increased and when a team loses its NRR will be reduced. This is not so. Given that NRR is an aggregate measure of performance over time, a team that has a high NRR (i.e. is performing very well) could scrape through a match with a close win but because this is a lesser performance than their average so far their NRR could decrease, i.e. this performance has dragged their average down. Likewise, a team that has lost most of their matches heavily and has a negative NRR could lose a very close match but because this performance was better than their previous efforts the NRR would likely be increased, i.e. they have raised their average.

This is all because NRR is re-calculated from scratch after each match and the nature of fractional mathematics means that adding numbers to the top and bottom of a fraction then recalculating the result is not the same as adding that fraction to the previous result. This is where NRR differs significantly from "goal difference" in football/soccer, where the goal difference for a game can simply be added to the team’s goal difference that stood before that match, to get the new goal difference for the season so far.

These are the legend of the BCT team. We won some great matches and we lost close wining game.People left the team because of studies some stayed in fought fearless got hurt etc, some of them left the team once they joined college but most of them stayed and played regularly that is the spirit of the team and some of them or still there to promote and speak for the team. We enjoyed, we where having some fight within the team, we had ego, some played own games, some played for the team and we enjoyed everything that happen. The above list is the people who joined the team by paying, if i remember around rs 150 sorry mosi if i quote wrongly.

Sorry guys if any one of your name is missing in the list please let me know.
I would thank selvam anna who is still there in beach who helped us providing water pepsi etc for account ha ha. I think this was the golden moments of the team.

Hi BCTians,

I am pleased to see all you guys in action throughout this month...

Here are the dates in which we played our heart out....

We played a match against Yogesh XI in which our Yogesh played against us on 15.04.07.........
We played good cricket,took six runouts, and in the end we won........

Man of the match Sairaj scored some 20 odd runs and took some three wickets which favoured our win......

The big mistake in that match was our opponents fielded our beloved Yogesh at number 5 that saved us many runs

End score BCT 65 in 12 overs
Yogesh XI 56 in 10.4 overs

Turning point was Six runouts by super fielders of BCT

Team consisted of Sairaj,Halith,Mushi,Mahmud,Mohan,Balaji,Anto,Babu,Moses,Arun(only 10 a team match)

Thanks to our teams effort, we could even play on saturdays with almost 80% strength

Our first target was 80 and we made a score only few shorter than 50 with all wickets out
Our next target was 60 and we made 63 in 9.4 overs with 2 wickets to spare.

Overall top batsmen found their form,
We are working on the middle order

As the summer heat is rising the mercury levels
Lets rise up our adrenaline levels by playing more cricket and beating the heat.

Guys as a cricket crazy organisation we have to rise fund for buying

As on April 1 2007, I have requested u all to bear Rs 20 for our cricketing expenses as we dont have any sponsors like Coke/Pepsi/Videocon .
